Shipibo Cultural Exchange & Retreat
This 3-week retreat takes place in Iquitos, Peru, a gateway to the Amazon rainforest. It offers chapter members the unique opportunity to engage with the Shipibo people, an indigenous group renowned for their deep spiritual connection to the natural world and their mastery of plant medicine. The retreat is designed to facilitate healing, self-discovery, and spiritual growth through a combination of traditional ceremonies, cultural activities, and time spent in the serene beauty of the Amazon.
SVA National Conference
The Student Veterans of America® National Conference (“NatCon”) is the largest gathering of student veterans anywhere in the world. With SVA chapters at nearly 1,600 campuses across the U.S. and in several countries abroad, NatCon serves as a focal point in the academic year to share ideas, best practices, and network with veteran and military-affiliated students, their families, supporters, and allies, as well as corporate, government, and nonprofit partners, and more!
SVA Washington Week
The event allows Student Veterans of America® (SVA) chapter members to make their voices heard in the heart of our Nation’s capital. Chapter members will have the chance to share their experience as student veterans with their elected officials, attend a joint hearing of Congress to watch SVA present its policy priorities, network, and experience the rich history of Washington, DC
SVA Regional Summits
This conference is recommended for all current chapter leaders, future chapter leaders, chapter members, and university faculty, staff, and administration involved in the chapter. The networking opportunities combined with the lessons delivered are sure to help our chapters become successful and sustainable for those who come after us.
SVA Leadership Institute
This premier student leadership experience brings together our country’s top chapter leaders through an immersive experience designed to equip tomorrow’s leaders to serve and create a lasting community of impact.
More about the retreat
Over the course of three weeks, chapter members will engage in a carefully structured program that allows for a gradual and deepening immersion into Shipibo healing traditions. Key elements of the retreat include:
- Ayahuasca Ceremonies: Led by Shipibo shamans and initiates, these nighttime ceremonies are the cornerstone of the retreat. The number of ceremonies may vary, but typically, participants can expect multiple sessions spaced throughout the three weeks. Each ceremony is designed to facilitate personal healing, spiritual insight, and emotional release.
- Cultural Workshops and Activities: In addition to the ceremonies, the retreat includes opportunities to learn about Shipibo culture as well as other healing modalities. This may involve:
- Lessons on the Shipibo language.
- Participation in daily life activities with the Shipibo community, fostering a deeper connection to their way of life.
- Integration Circles
- Yoga
- Guided Meditation
- Pranayama (Breath-work)
- Jungle Treks and Plant Medicine Education: Guided excursions into the Amazon rainforest provide participants with the chance to learn about the rich biodiversity of the region. These treks often focus on identifying and understanding the medicinal plants used in Shipibo healing practices, offering insight into the natural pharmacy of the jungle.
- Personal Reflection and Integration: Time is set aside between ceremonies for rest, meditation, and personal reflection. This allows participants to process their experiences and integrate the insights gained during the ayahuasca sessions. Group sharing circles or one-on-one discussions with facilitators may also be part of the integration process.
